The healthcare system in America is a travesty. One of the wealthiest nations in the world treats its most vulnerable people the harshest, bleeding people of their money and dignity when they need help the most.
Sylvain Sylvain is a rock and roll icon. Without the New York Dolls, life would've been a lot more boring. All of us who enjoy rock and roll owe Sylvain Sylvain a debt of gratitude. And he's got cancer, and in order to pay for his treatment, he's got a GoFundMe.
We live in a time when an (excellent) indie rocker who has had no trouble getting record deals was able to raise six figures with a Kickstarter campaign, so he could record his own record. Another guy raised $50K to make fucking potato salad. And yet at the time of this writing, a legendary figure in our music has raised just $57,000 in the first 26 days of his campaign. If the system has turned its back on him, we punks and weirdos WILL NOT.
Joe Pugsley of The 65's and Pyrrhic Victory Recordings and I were bitching back and forth about what a shame it was that he's ill, and how tough it must be to reach out to fans, hoping for help. I've never met him. Joe opened up for him once. We both owe him anyway.
So Joe got The 65's back into the studio for the first time in a while, and recorded a ripping version of "Personality Crisis" for us to co-release on Dromedary and Pyrrhic Victory. We're thrilled to do it. We're asking you to pay at least three bucks for the download, and $20 for the lathe cut, and we will give every penny to Sylvain Sylvain's GoFundMe.
Three bucks is not enough, though. Go to the man's GoFundMe and make a contribution. And then vote for candidates that support healthcare legislation that doesn't leave anybody behind.
